MHz Networks Trials Two Mobile DTV Channels in Washington, DC Metro Area

WASHINGTON, DC–  MHz Networks joins members of the Open Video Mobile Coalition in launching the Washington, D.C. Mobile Digital Television Consumer Showcase.

The Consumer Trial, marked with a May 24 launch event, premiers the four-month consumer experience of mobile digital television (Mobile DTV) devices and services in the D.C. metro area.

Consumer devices, including Mobile DTV-equipped Samsung phones, Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbooks, portable DVD players from LG Electronics and Tivizen Mobile DTV receivers from Valups were demoed in the launch. All of these devices are the centerpiece of the DC Consumer Showcase launched this month with hundreds of area consumers, who are being asked to provide feedback through daily diaries, market research and focus groups.

The Washington showcase involves nine DC-area TV stations broadcasting more than 20 programs that are now available live over the air on Mobile DTV devices. The showcase will include interactive consumer voting and polling, interactive advertising, electronic service guides for program information, closed captioning and emergency alerts.

OMVC member stations for the trial, along with MHz Networks, include:
• WRC (NBC Universal)
• WTTG (Fox)
• WDCA (Fox)
• ION Media Networks
• WFDC (Univision)
• WHUT (Howard University)
• WUSA (Gannett Broadcasting)

The channels are found on the digital mobile signals as 30.1 and 30.2, respectively.
