MHz Networks CEO Named Member of International Emmy Awards

FALLS CHURCH, VA & NEW YORK, NY- Frederick Thomas, Chief Executive of MHz Networks, was recently named a member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

As the largest organization of global broadcasters, members stem from nearly 70 countries and over 400 companies comprised of leading media and entertainment figures from all sectors of television including internet, mobile and technology.

The Academy was chartered with a mission to recognize excellence in television programming produced outside of the United States, and it presents the International Emmy® Award to programs in fourteen categories.

This year's nominations span over 17 countries. The competition took place with three rounds of judging over a period of 6 months, with participation from over 600 judges in 50 different countries.

In addition to the presentation of the International Emmy® Awards for programming, the Academy will present two special awards. Sir David Frost, one of the preeminent television figures of the 20th century whose interviews with President Richard Nixon were immortalized in last year’s Oscar nominated movie Frost/Nixon, is set to receive the 2009 International Emmy® Founders Award.

Frost appears nightly on Frost Over the World on Al Jazeera English on MHz Networks 5 in the Washington, D.C. metro (over the air channel 30.5, Comcast 275, Cox 474, and Verizon FiOS 457.)

Markus Schächter, Director General, ZDF, will receive the 2009 International Emmy Directorate Award for his outstanding leadership of ZDF and to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the founding of The Federal Republic of Germany.

Frederick Thomas said, "As the gateway to the U.S. television market and stateside presence of many of the top broadcasters and content producers in the world, MHz Networks is poised to bring viewers globally-minded content, via broadcast, cable, satellite and telco, immerging mobile and on demand technologies, unlike anyone else in the U.S. I'm delighted for the recognition of MHz Networks' innovation through my election as a member of the Academy."
